Vijay-Samantha's "Kaththi" is receiving positive reviews from critics.

Directed by Murugadoss, "Kaththi" is touted to be an action thriller with Vijay playing dual roles. Samantha plays the female lead opposite Vijay, while Neil Nithin Mukesh appears as the main antagonist and Sathish will be providing comic relief.

After the success of "Thuppakki," Vijay and Murugadoss are back to entertain the audience. The film after facing some issues finally has hit the screens on the special occasion of Diwali. Whether Vijay and Murugadoss will be able to deliver once again with "Kaththi" is something one needs to wait and watch.

Plot: The film's story revolves around Vijay's dual characters – Jeevanandham and Kathiresan. Jeevanandham is a social activist who fights against a large corporate, which is planning to usurp the fertile lands of the farmers. On the other hand, Kathiresan is a thief who has escaped jail and is on the run. How Kathiresan steps into Jeevanandham's shoes and leads the fight against the corporate forms the crux of the story.

Critics have appreciated Vijay for giving an all-round performance in terms of action, comedy, romance and emotions. Many have stated that "Kaththi" is a strong film for Vijay. In his debut as villain, Neil Nithin Mukesh impresses with stylish looks and his Tamil dubbing. The other actors have played their parts well.

Murugadoss's originality in the story and the screenplay steals the heart of the fans and creates sympathy towards the plight of the farmers, said the critics.

The technical aspects of "Kaththi" have fetched positive feedback from them. Anirudh's BGM uplifts the film's mood. On the flip side, the song placements could have been better, said the critics.

"Kaththi is a grand production which rides on Vijay's dual roles, the social interest angle and some impactful scenes which are part of the mix," according to Behindwoods Review Board.

Performances: "Vijay as Jeevanandham & Kathiresan has delivered a lifetime performance, and showed a brilliant variety in both the roles, albeit not even a great makeover between both the roles," according to Indiaglitz.

Samantha is cute and complements really well with Vijay for 3 songs, and her smile demands the viewers to take a note out of her as well. Sathish's one liners do not make us to ROFL, but it was enough to evoke much needed laugh in this social drama. Neil Nithin Mukesh deserves a special mention for delivering the dialogues beautifully, and he fits the bill perfectly as a chairman of an MNC," the website stated.

Technical Aspects: "Technically, Kaththi is a storm. The film possesses stunning visuals thanks to George C. Williams. Editing by Sreekar Passed is neat, yet a few trims in the first half would have stepped on the pedal. The art direction is surreal, and the stunts do bring up the ante, especially the coin flip fight sequence. Anirudh's songs dont find themselves good placements, but he co-ops it up with stellar re-recording," said Siddarth Srinivas of Cinemalead.

"Straight of the sheath, Kaththi is sharp most of the time, but not always. AR Murgadoss has come out with a film which has a neat social message, packaged well with mass entertainment elements. Vijay carries the film in a tricky dual role, which brings out the star in him whether doing comedy, romance, songs, fights and emotional scenes," according to Sify.

Verdict: Vijay Excels in Dual Roles, Treat for Actor's fans.
