"Kaththi" has emerged as the biggest Tamil hit of 2014. With the Vijay's movie grossing over ₹115 crore worldwide, the film has broken several records and this has generated a curiosity whether the film will remain in the numero uno position this year as "Lingaa" and "Yennai Arindhaal" are getting ready for release next month.

The Vijay's movie has registered several records in its name and the prominent among them is the total collection of the movie. In the coming months, two big movies are expected to release and there are chances that "Kaththi" might be pushed to the second position.

The records of "Kaththi" are under threat of being broken by Rajinikanth's "Lingaa", which will release in record number of screens on 12 December.

Apart from the superstar's movie, Ajith Kumar's "Yennai Arindhaal", which is expected to release for Christmas, has a narrow chance of beating Vijay's movie as only a week will be left in the current year. And the collection of the film in January will be accounted for the next year.

"Kaththi" got the biggest opening of the year as the Tamil movie earned ₹12.5 crore on the release day. It also set record for the biggest first weekend by raking in ₹36.5 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. The worldwide gross collection of ₹47 crore is also the biggest of the year.

Traders predict that "Lingaa" has the potential to break the first day and the opening weekend records of "Kaththi". Even if Rajinikanth's movie fails to secure good reviews and word-of-mouth, the superstar's gigantic fan-following will ensure that the Kollywood film makes earth-shattering business in the opening weekend.

However, the lifetime collection of Vijay's movie might be unaffected, if "Lingaa" fails to impress audience like his previous mega-budget movie, "Kochadaiiyaan".

It should be noted that "Yennai Arindhaal" also has a chance to beat the first-day and weekend records of "Kaththi".

However, it seems difficult for Ajith's film to beat the lifetime collection of the film given that the movie might get only a week to perform at box office in 2014.
