Rajinikanth's "Kabali" has emerged as the highest grossing South Indian movie of 2016 at the worldwide box office. The movie has beaten the seven big collection records of "Baahubali" (Bahubali).
"Kabali," which was released in over 4,500 screens across the globe on July 22, opened to an overwhelming response and made decent collection on the following days in its opening week. The Pa. Ranjith-directed gangster movie has collected approximately Rs 350 crore gross at the worldwide box office in 10 days. The movie has become the biggest money spinner of the year in Southern industry.
Director SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali: the Beginning" had kicked up a storm at the worldwide box office. The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer shattered all the old collection records of Southern industry and set its own new benchmarks. 1. Fastest South Indian film to cross $1 million mark in US premiere
"Baahubali -the Beginning" has collected $1,010,550 at the box office in the premiere show and this was the highest collection till July 22. "Kabali" shattered this record by collecting $1.50 million in the paid preview shows held on the night of July 21.
2. Biggest opener South Indian movie in global market
"Baahubali - the Beginning" collected Rs 75 crore (Rs 62 crore nett and Rs 45 crore share) at the worldwide box office on the first day. "Kabali" has grossed Rs. 87.50 crore (Rs. 70+ crore nett and Rs. 53.59 share) at the global box office on its opening day.
3. Fastest Rs 100 crore grossing South Indian movie
"Baahubali - the Beginning" grossed Rs 135 crore at the worldwide box office in two days and it was the fastest Rs 100 crore grossing South Indian movie. Kabali has shattered its record by raking in over Rs. 150 crore in two days.
4. Highest grossing south Indian film in opening weekend
The SS Rajamouli-directed movie has grossed Rs. 197 crore at the global box office in its opening weekend. The Rajinikanth starrer has collected Rs. 211 crore in the worldwide market in the first weekend.
5. Highest grossing south Indian film in opening weekend overseas
The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer collected $4.65 million at the overseas box office in the first weekend. The Kalaipuli Thanu-produced film has raked in $11.20 million in the international markets in its first weekend.

"Baahubali" collected Rs 213 crore at the worldwide box office in five days and became the fastest Rs 200 crore grossing south Indian film. "Kabali" has surpassed the mark of Rs. 200 crore in just three day.
7. All time highest grossing Southern movie in international markets
"Baahubali " has collected $10.94 millon (Rs 71.30 crore) at the overseas box office in its life time and it was the first South Indian movie to cross the mark of $10 million in the international markets. Kabali has beaten this record in just three days and it has collected a total of $15.70 million overseas in 10 days.
