Two new franchises -- Pune and Rajkot -- had the opportunity to pick five of the best players each from a draft specially created for them.
As Pune had bid the lowest in the IPL team auction, they had the advantage of roping in the player of their choice first up. And to no-one's surprise, Team Pune picked MS Dhoni.
Team Rajkot went on to break the partnership between Suresh Raina and Dhoni, that they used to share with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), by roping in the former as their first choice from the draft.
Team Pune also went on to pick Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis. On the other hand, Team Rajkot signed Ravindra Jadeja, Brendon McCullum, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo.
Both the teams already have some world class names, but one believes that Rajkot were a little bit clever with their choice of players. They have got to destructive batsmen at the top order, two seam bowling all-rounders and one spinning all-rounder.
Let us have a look at how Twitter reacted after the IPL draft took place:
