With Apple Inc. expected to release its upcoming flagship smartphone iPhone 6 in the next few months, speculations around the device's looks and features are gaining momentum. Now, a new report claims the much-awaited device may look like iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, contradicting earlier reports that it would have the looks of iPod Touch.

Giving a clearer picture of what Apple's next-generation smartphone would look like when it is released, a case maker, who works with the major UK retailer Mobilefun, has leaked the design of the device, according to a report by GSM Arena. The new device may look very similar to its predecessors, iPhone 5 and 5S, if the design of the cases are anything to go by.

The leaked cases hold some truth unlike the concept videos that have been doing the rounds for quite a while now, as case makers usually get information on the shape of the device, position of buttons and sensors, well before its release.

It is reported that Apple Inc. will release two variants of iPhone 6 - 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models - in the second half of this year. The former variant is expected to come earlier.

The 4.7-inch model of iPhone 6 is expected to be released in August, while the 5.5-inch variant could arrive in September, reported Reuters, citing a report by Taiwan's Economic Daily News, which got a tip-off from unidentified supply-chain sources. The news agency had earlier reported, citing sources from the supply chain, that Apple suppliers would start mass production of iPhone 6 as early as May, with plans to release the smaller model of the device in autumn.

Several conflicting reports have surfaced on the release date of Apple's new smartphone with a research note from UBS Managing Director Steve Milunovich (via Barron's) claiming that the 4.7-inch variant of iPhone 6 would be launched either in August or September. A report by Nikkei also claimed that the device would be launched as early as September. But it is also reported that the Cupertino giant could announce its new product at the upcoming WWDC event in June.

According to reports, both variants of iPhone 6 may have full scratch-free sapphire crystal glass screen. They may sport a 4.7/4.8 inch or 5.5 inch display with a 1920x1080p (440ppi), or a 2272×1280 (510ppi), powered by the A8 chip (64-bit) and run on iOS 7.2, according to South Korean brokerage KDB Daewoo Securities.

The device may also feature low temperature polysilicon in-cell touch panels, Touch ID fingerprint security, NFC, metal casing and an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, according to Apple Insider website, citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Chinese analyst Sun Chang Xu also hinted that the device have sensors that can detect pressure, temperature and humidity.
