The entire nation is celebrating the 69th Independence Day on Saturday, 15 August, and millions of Indians across the country are expressing their gratitude towards the martyrs.

And on the special day, some popular celebs from the television industry shared in an interview with Telly Chakkar what independence means to them.

Aishwarya Sakhuja, who was a part of "Nach Baliye 7", told the web-portal: "Being from an army background I understand what our soldiers go through every day while protecting us. I believe that people need to be more responsible and better citizen. I think everyone should fight for their own rights. And today I am listening to patriotic songs and will also attend the flag hoisting at my building."

Anita Hassanandani of "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein" said: "Independence for me means having a voice to raise against wrong, having the freedom to make your own decisions, taking responsibility for your own actions, and being mature enough to do all these."

Actor Mohit Sehgal, who is the boyfriend of "Jhalka Dikhhla Jaa 8" contestant Sanaya Irani, said: "I feel India is still not independent. Independence means no discrimination, no poverty, education for all and most importantly women empowerment."

Manav Gohil of "Yum Hai Hum" said: "Independence Day for me is a day when I relive the emotions that our freedom fighters lived each day through their entire life. I salute all the Soldiers who stand on the border just to protect us and our country. It is a day when I reaffirm my pledge to let the hope be undefeated for the nation and all humanity."

Child artist Ruhanika Dhawan aka Ruhi of "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein" has turned patriotic on the special day and shared her sketch of the National Flag with her fans as well.
