Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer "Holiday – A Soldier is Never Off Duty" had a decent opening day occupancy.
"Holiday" directed by AR Murugadoss was the most-awaited release post the IPL season. The film was expected to start on a spectacular note and beat the opening day total of Salman Khan's "Jai Ho". However, the film failed to do that.
The film had registered occupancy of around 35 to 40 percent, due to which the opening day collection was not as much as it was expected. As per early estimates, the opening day total is around ₹12 crore, which is lower than "2 States" collection.

With positive reviews and word of mouth, the film was expected to pick up its pace at the box office during the evening and night shows. Also, the film had one of the widest releases this year. The screen count of the film is around 3500 screens in India and over 400 in overseas.
Meanwhile, if the opening total of the film comes to ₹12 crore, the film will be the fourth highest day one grosser in 2014.
The top spot is retained by Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" with ₹17 crore, followed by "Gunday" with ₹16.12 crore and "2 States" in the third place with ₹12.42 crore.
On a positive note, the film has received very good response in the international arena. "#Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty storms UAE-GCC. It's the HIGHEST *Thursday opening* ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
In overseas market, the film has been released in 26 screens in Australia and New Zealand, 70 screens in the UK, 140 screens in US-Canada and 54 screens in UAE-GCC. Additionally, it will be screened in 110 screens in 32 other countries.
