Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, marks the birth of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed God in Hindu mythology.

This year, India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi on 17 September with great fervour and joy. The 10-day-long festival beginning on Thursday represents the typical Indian celebratory madness, with colours, music and dance.

It is mainly observed in Maharashtra, Gujarat and south India and mostly falls in the month of Bhadra, i.e, anytime between mid-August and mid-September, according to the Hindu calendar.

From commoners to celebrities, all celebrate the auspicious festival by bringing the Ganpati idol at home and worshipping it.

Many Bollywood celebs, including Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha and Shruti Haasan, wished their fans on social media on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
