Police have arrested a film producer in Mumbai for allegedly throwing hazardous chemical substance at his ex-girlfriend's face.

Jerrit G John, a well known name in short filmmaking, has been accused of throwing chemicals at his 26-year-old physiotherapist ex-girlfriend Aryanka Hosbetkar.

The film producer was arrested on Saturday at Nalasopara area, Thane district near Mumbai.

"John has been picked from Nalasopara area and I have interrogated him... he admitted he had thrown acid on a woman at Worli," PTI quoted Deepak Devraj, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thane (Rural) as saying.

The 45-year-old film producer is married and has a five-year-old son. He reportedly had an extra marital affair with the victim since the past 10 months. On Wednesday, John throw chemical on her face after which she was admitted to a hospital but was discharged the following day.

John, owner of 'No Nonsense' production house, was hiding in a hotel after the incident. According to police, the accused threw chemicals at Hosbetkar at her residence at Adarsh Colony in Worli.

John has been handed over to Mumbai police, who have booked him for causing serious injuries, robbery and wrongful confinement, as he allegedly took away victim's phone before locking her up in a room.

"Hosbetkar had two mobile phones, but he only snatched the one which had the threatening text messages he had sent her as he knew it was incriminating evidence against him," DNA quoted a police official as saying.

John had produced and directed television serials and has been associated with a few Bollywood movies.
