The hearing of the Delhi gang rape case was adjourned on Monday after one of the accused was rushed to hospital due to chest pain.

Mukesh Singh, the brother of prime accused Ram Singh who allegedly committed suicide earlier this month, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital before he was taken to Saket court complex for the proceedings.

The Saket court which was to commence the hearing at 2 pm adjourned the hearing of the case till 3 pm to wait for the hospital's report.

Mukesh's councel M L Sharma raised objection to the prosecution's submission and said that "something fishy is going on and I am worried about his hospitalisation due to chest pain," reported Press Trust of India.

He also sought permission from the court to meet his client at the earliest.

"I don't trust that Mukesh will be provided better medical facilities," he said.

Sharma also asked for a special doctor to examine his client. The judge, however, turned down his demand and said the court will wait for a while before taking a decision.

The court asserted that Mukesh will have to appear before court if the doctors declared him fit to stand for trial.

While Mukesh was rushed to the hospital, the other three adult accused in the case - Akshay Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma - were produced before the court by the police.

The accused are being tried for the gang rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student in a moving bus on 16 December, 2012. The girl was brutally assaulted with an iron rod and was thrown off the bud in a semi-clad condition. She succumbed to her injuries a fortnight later in Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

The police had arrested the six men a day after the incident and had charged five of them under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (2)(g) (gangrape), 377 (unnatural offences), 395 (dacoity), 396 (murder in dacoity), 394 (hurting in dacoity), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120-B (conspiracy), 34 (common intention) and 412 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) under the Indian Penal Code.

Ram Singh who was found hanging in his cell on March 11 has been abated from the case.

The youngest accused who is a minor had been kept in an observation home.
