A cylinder blast in an ambulance carrying a new-born child in Thane, Maharashtra, left the baby dead and the mother injured. 

Two other people were also injured in the explosion on Friday, ANI news agency reported. 

The ambulance reportedly caught fire after the blast took place a little after midnight on Friday, according to posts on social media. 

The baby was reportedly being taken to a speciality care in Mumbai from a Thane hospital.

The explosion occurred in the CNG kit in the rear of the ambulance, according to The Times of India.
