Upcoming video game "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" received its official trailer from developer Infinity Ward, even as the trailer was leaked out via Hulu on May 2, before the official reveal.
"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare returns to the roots of the franchise where large-scale war and cinematic, immersive military storytelling take centre stage," said publisher Activision in its YouTube description. "Prepare for a gripping war story in which players fight against the Settlement Defines Front to defend our very way of life."
Following the official release, Infinity Ward developers streamed a video (below) where they talked about "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's" campaign, multiplayer and co-operative mode in the game.
Here are what we know so far about the new game:
The game is set in the infinite outer space. This is the first game in the "Call of Duty" franchise that the leaves the confines of Earth and moves into space.
The world in "Infinite Warfare" according to Jacob Minkoff, designer director, Infinity Ward, is dependent on the resources from outposts throughout the Solar System, the dependence outside is due to Earth's natural resources being exploited to the maximum.
The countries of Earth have united under the United Nations Space Alliance, to colonise space.
Militarisation is the natural outcome of these situations as countries on the Earth rely on these outposts for its fuel. However, there is a "brutal" insurgent militarised group called Settlement Defence Front, which rises to control these outposts and the resources with the idea of putting an embargo on the countries that need these supplies and bring them under its control.
Captain Reyes is the game's protagonist who is tasked to defend Earth from SDF forces, both on land and air.
This gameplay provides new environments with space as a setting; players can explore places that they have never been in the "Call of Duty" franchise.
Players will be able to experience the dog fights in space (Zero Gravity fights), boots on ground combat and missions on asteroid that are spinning out of control and moving towards the sun. There will also be space ship-based battles.
Minkoff is of the opinion that the game creates new gameplay challenges and new pressure on characters.
Minkoff said that the game is realistic, as the fight is between humans and not among aliens and the like.
On the multiplayer front, Joe Cecot, Lead Designer, Infinity Ward, revealed that there are new mechanics in "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare." The maps will take players to places they have not been before, there are maps that take place on Earth, Space Station and on other planets within the Solar System.
Brian Bright, Project Director of Infinity Ward revealed that for the first time, Infinity Ward is working on zombies for co-operative mode. He also divulged that it will be set in a separate universe from that of the campaign and multiplayer maps.
