"Yaan"

Jiiva's "Yaan" took a good opening on the first day of its release. The film minted ₹2.78 crore in Tamil Nadu. Despite receiving average reviews, "Yaan" performed decent business in the first weekend owing to holidays.

In Chennai, the action entertainer is estimated to have grossed ₹77 lakh in its opening weekend, according to Behindwoods. With Monday being a holiday for Bakrid, "Yaan" is expected to perform decent business in theatres. However, it remains to be seen as to how the film fares from Tuesday (7 October).

"Madras"

Karthi's "Madras" has continued to dominate the screens despite the release of "Yaan" on 2 October.

"Madras" fared well in its opening weekend and continued its good run with the film minting ₹1.88 crore in 10 days at the Chennai box office.

The action drama flick fetched fantastic reviews from the critics and the audience alike. It is expected to continue its successful run in the coming days and end the second week on a good note.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, "Madras" has Karthi and Catherine Tresa in lead roles. 

"Aranmanai"

Hansika-Andrea-Raai Laxmi's "Aranmanai" has turned out to be a hit venture. The horror comedy entertainer took good openings in the first weekend. The film continued to perform well in its second week despite the release of Jiiva's "Yaan."

The Sundar C directorial has minted ₹2.76 crore in 17 days at the Chennai box office, according to Behindwoods.

With "Aranmanai" turning out to be a hit, he is on a roll with back-to-back successful films including "Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru."

"Jeeva"

Vishu Vishal's "Jeeva" has managed to hold on to some shows despite the release of new films.

"Jeeva" received positive reviews from the critics as well as from the audience. Although it took an average opening, it continued to hold on well in its first week at the box office.

The film has witnessed average theatre occupancy of 65% in the weekend. It minted ₹69.24 lakh in 10 days at the Chennai box office. One needs to wait and watch as to how the film fares in its second week.

Directed by Suseenthiran, "Jeeva" is about a young cricketer who aims to get selected in the Indian team. Vishnu Vishal appears in the role of a cricketer, while Sri Divya of "Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam" fame plays his love interest. The film's other cast members include Soori, Lakshman Narayan, Vinoth Kishan, Charlie and T Siva.
