Dhanush's "Velai Illa Pattathari" ("VIP") is dominating the Chennai box office even in its second week.

The romantic action entertainer is estimated to have grossed over ₹4 crore in ten days at the Chennai box office. The film witnessed an average theatre occupancy of 85 percent during the weekends, reported Behindwoods.

"VIP" opening weekend collections from Chennai have already surpassed the first weekend collections of Ajith's "Veeram" and Vijay's "Jilla." The film grossed ₹1.68 crore in its debut weekend at the Chennai box office, while "Veeram" and "Jilla" earned ₹1.23 crore and ₹1.32 crore, respectively, Behindwoods reported.

The Dhanush starrer has already turned out to be a big hit at the box office. The film is the biggest grosser of 2014 so far, according to reports. "VIP" has netted over ₹19 crore in its opening week at the Tamil Nadu box office.

The film is expected to continue its good run even on Monday and Tuesday owing to four-day long weekend for Ramzan. The film might witness a drop in its collections from 1 August due to the release of Siddharth's "Jigarthanda."

Expectations are high for "Jigarthanda" and the film is likely to take decent openings. It is expected to give some tough competition to "VIP."

Despite the release of "VIP", "Sathuranga Vettai" has managed to hold well at the box office. The film took an average opening upon its release. Positive reviews from the critics have helped it to perform decently at the box office. It is estimated to have grossed over ₹70 lakh in ten days at the Chennai box office.

Jai-Nazriya's "Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah" has taken an average opening in its first weekend. The film raked in over ₹31 lakh in its opening weekend in Chennai.

The romantic drama, directed by Anees, has received an average reviews from critics. Ramzan holiday might help the film to fetch some decent collections. However, it remains to be seen as how the film fares during the weekdays.

The Jai starrer will have one more week run, after which it will be facing competition from "Jigarthanda" along with other films that are successfully running at the box office.
