After witnessing a record-breaking opening weekend, Vijay's "Jilla" and Ajith's "Veeram" have registered smashing first week collections.

Both "Jilla" and "Veeram", which were Pongal releases, have performed extremely well in their first week theatrical run at the worldwide box office.

The two films opened to immense acclaim from fans and are now entering their second weekend.

In Tamil Nadu, the box office battle has been practically equivalent but "Jilla" has emerged the box office winner.

The action masala film "Jilla", starring Vijay, Mohanlal and Kajal Aggarwal, in lead roles has accumulated ₹70 crore from the worldwide box office in first week, according to Gizmo Crave.

"#Jilla won the #Pongal Festival by Big Margin. It collected Record Fantastic ₹70 cr Worldwide on 1st Week..!! #Veeram is also Hit,, ₹58 cr," film critic and journalist Kiaara Sandhu tweeted.

The film has been declared one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema. "Jilla" has shattered the first week records of big films including "Singam 2".

"Singam 2", starring Surya, Anushka Shetty and Radha Ravi among others, had minted more than ₹50 crore in just 10 days of its release.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Ajith and Vijay are having a box office clash. In 2007, their films "Pokkiri" and "Aalwar" were released on the same day.

But this time "Jilla" has won the box office fight. "Jilla" has a favourable element this time as Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is featured alongside Vijay.

Meanwhile, "Veeram" too had shattered "Singam 2" records by earning ₹58 crore in week one. "Veeram" is reportedly Ajith's biggest blockbuster film till now.
