The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016 just had a two-day break that allowed all the seven teams to have a good look at their performance, and see what they can improve to play better cricket as the league resumes on Thursday. Dhaka Dynamites, Barisal Bulls and Khulna Titans have been the best teams, while the defending champions Comilla Victorians have been the worst, losing all their matches so far.
Though the Victorians will not be in action, two top matches are set for today. Here is a look at both the matches, one by one.
Dhaka Dynamites vs Chittagong Vikings
The Dynamites have been brilliant in BPL 2016, defeating teams like Victorians, Bulls and other teams. They currently lie on top of the table with three wins and one loss, and the Dynamites will need to continue playing such cricket, which has helped them win matches. Opener Mehedi Maruf has been good, but they will hope for a solid performance from Kumar Sangakkara, who has got decent starts, but failed to convert that into meaningful scores.
With all-rounders like Ravi Bopara and Shakib Al Hasan, they have their bases covered. If their key players perform, it could be another victory for the Dynamites. The Vikings have not been in the best of form after their impressive win in the first match. They have lost three straight ever since.
They have the players to deliver, and it is just a matter of time when they play as a unit. Tamim Iqbal and Abdur Razzak need to bring their experience and turn results in their favour.
Rangpur Riders vs Barisal Bulls
The Rangpur Riders will always be a great threat in BPL 2016 with the players that they have in their squad. In the form of Afghan opener Mohammad Shahzad, they have an aggressive player, perfect for T20 cricket, and he needs to be more consistent as the BPL progresses ahead. With Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun, they have a solid batting order, and add the experience of Shahid Afridi, also the quality of Rubel Hossain, they look solid.
The Bulls are the in-form team in the BPL 2016, winning their last three matches on a trot. They may not have some big names compared to other teams, but their players have stood up to the task and defeated teams with all-round cricket. Credit must go to Mushfiqur Rahim, who has led the team splendidly well. Bulls lie on second place, and for them to stay on top half of the table, they have to play consistent cricket.
