Versatile actor Kamal Haasan, who has completed 50 years in the Indian film industry, will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th Mumbai Film Festival, an initiative of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI)

"He is a legend in every sense of the term. He is a writer, singer, director, lyricist and an actor par-excellence. We are extremely honoured to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Kamal Haasan," Shyam Benegal, Chairman, MAMI, said in a statement.

Kamal will be bestowed with the award along with French filmmaker Costa-Gavras (known for his films "Z", "Missing" and "Amen") at the film festival, which is all set to commence from 17 October. The eight-day film festival will have over 200 films (from across the globe) getting screened.

Kamal began his acting career at the age of four in Tamil film "Kalathur Kannamma." He continued working in several films as a child artiste. After a seven year hiatus, Kamal returned to films doing supporting roles. Later, he began appearing in lead roles and won his first filmfare award in Tamil for the film "Apoorva Raagangal."

The legendary actor is best known for his performances in films including "Naayagan", "Moondram Pirai", "Apoorva Sagotharargal", Michael Madhana Kamarajan", "Hey Ram", "Ek Duuje Ke Liye", "Saagara Sangamam", "Vasool Raja MBBS" and the latest release "Vishwaroopam." Many of Kamal's films were not just critically acclaimed, but also commercially successful.

Kamal has over 190 films to his credit in different film industries including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The multi-faceted actor is now busy with his upcoming film "Vishwaroopam 2", a sequel to the spy thriller of the same name. Kamal has completed most portions of the film, written and directed by the actor himself. "Vishwaroopam 2" is expected to get released worldwide in November/December.
