Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer "Chennai Express" (CE) has created another record at the domestic box office by grossing more than Salman Khan's "Ek Tha Tiger" opening day collections.

Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh, has now raised the bar at domestic box office with his latest release. "Chennai Express" has raked in a whopping ₹33.12 crore on the first day of its release in Indian theaters.

After beating Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" paid preview record, "Chennai Express" has now shattered "Ek Tha Tiger" first day earning records.

Before the release of "CE", Salman's spy-thriller had held the record of the highest first day collection with ₹32.92 crore. With ₹33.12 crore, "Chennai Express" has shattered all previous records at the domestic box office.

"Let's begin the day with a SMASHING news. #ChennaiExpress smashes all previous records, collects ₹33.12 cr on Friday. Creates HISTORY," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"Thu previews 6.75 cr, Fri 33.12 cr. Total: 39.87 cr nett. India biz only. All previous records shattered. Creates History!" he added.

Adding the Thursday's paid preview collection, the total collections of the film stands at ₹39.87 crore in Indian markets. Rohit Shetty's directorial venture minted a record breaking ₹6.75 crore in paid previews on Thursday, which is also the highest amount any Bollywood movie has earned.   

"Chennai Express" has now smashed the record of two highest grossing films in Bollywood - "3 Idiots" and "Ek Tha Tiger".

Apart from the star power and story line, the film has worked at the box office because of increase in ticket prices, huge number of screens -3500 screens in India, and also due to Eid holiday.
