Nearly two weeks after the launch of Google's 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, owners of the Google Play editions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One in the US have begun receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates of the latest Android version.

The internet and software giant announced the next iteration of Android operating system on 24 June, and rolled it out with the new Nexus 7 tablet and the current-generation Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones.

The Google Play smartphone editions, which lack smart camera features of the original Galaxy S4 and HTC One, seem be among the first to have received the latest update.

Technology website Anandtech reported that the update size is around 150MB for Galaxy S4 and 180MB for HTC One. As of now the update is only through OTA.

"Just got the 4.3 OTA notification on both of my Google-suppled GPe phones. The update is around 150 MB for the SGS4 and 180 MB for the HTC One, and comes as build JWR66V," Anandtech noted.

The Android 4.3 update brings a host of changes like restricted user profiles (only on tablets), Bluetooth Smart aka Bluetooth Low Energy profile and OpenGL ES 3.0 support, which improves gaming graphics. It also brings support for 4K resolution videos, has an enhanced camera user interface and comes with improved security performance and bug fixes. Additionally, it provides system-level support for geofencing and Wi-Fi scanning APIs.

Galaxy S4 will get Bluetooth tethering, while HTC One will have infrared support after the update.
