Bollywood's latest films - "Bajatey Raho", "Issaq" and "Nasha", have opened to a poor response at the domestic box office.
Despite a bad start, "Bajatey Raho" witnessed an upward trend during Saturday (27 July) and Sunday (28 July). The film earned ₹4.75 crore nett in the opening weekend.
"Bajatey Raho" starring Vinay Pathak, Tusshar Kapoor and Ranvir Shorey fared better than "D Day" and "Ramaiya Vasavaiya". The collections of these two films, which was released on 19 July, drastically declined during the second weekend. Rishi Kapoor-Arjun Rampal film "D-Day" minted around ₹2.25 crore nett, whereas debutant Girish Kumar's "Ramaiya Vastavaiya" made approximately ₹3.75 crore nett.
However, Prateik Babbar's "Issaq" and Poonam Pandey's "Nasha" failed to pick up over the weekend. "Issaq" collections were pegged at ₹3 crore nett, whereas "Nasha" raked in ₹2.75-3 crore nett, according to boxofficeindia.com.
Farhan Akhtar's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" did good business when compared with the new films. The biopic, inspired by Milkha Singh, made about ₹9-9.50 crore nett in its third weekend, despite five new Hindi films released in the last two weekends. The sports film continues to rule the roost at the box office even in its third week. It has grossed about ₹92 crore and is all set to cross the ₹100-crore mark comfortably in a few days.
"The Wolverine"
Hollywood release "The Wolverine", starring Hugh Jackman, has made a decent start at the Indian box office. The film raked in about ₹10.5 crore, which was far better than the collections made by the new Bollywood releases.
"#TheWolverine drew better figures than new Hindi releases at the domestic BO. Collected Rs 10.5 cr nett in its opening weekend," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Following a poor start, the new Hindi films are expected to struggle this week as well. It remains to be seen if they would be able to continue their run after 2 August when eight new films are due for release.
