Speculations were rife as to when the film will be released. Earlier, it was reported that "Singam 2" will hit the theatres on 14 June and later on 28 June. In a bid to avoid a clash with Telugu actor Ravi Teja's film "Balupu", the film's release date is said to have been pushed further to 5 July.

Confirming the news, senior journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, "#Singam2 - Release confirmed on July 5, by all overseas and Kerala distributors."

But an official announcement from the makers is yet to come.

According to Sreedhar, Yahaya Bhai of United Exporters has purchased the overseas theatrical rights of "Singam 2."

Suriya enjoys a huge market in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The film will be released simultaneously in all three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The actor is currently involved in the promotional activities of the action entertainer.

Directed by Hari, "Singam 2" will have Suriya appearing as an authentic Indian cop who is on a mission overseas.

The sequel is generating a lot of hype as "Singam" was a major hit in all south languages. While a dubbed version was released in Telugu and Malayalam, the film was remade in Hindi and Kannada. Ajay Devgn reprised Suriya's role in the Hindi verison and Sudheep of "Eega" fame donned the cop character in the Kannada version.

With the release of "Singam 2", there is a strong buzz that the film might be remade in other languages.

Two teasers of the film that were released by the makers have given a glimpse of what to expect from "Singam 2." The videos uploaded on YouTube remind us that that the film would be a racy-action thriller.

Hollywood actor Danny Sapani dons the villain's role. The film also features Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Santhanam, Vivek, Nassar and Vijayakumar in supportive roles.

Music director Devi Sri Prasad has composed six peppy songs for "Singam 2." The sequel has been produced by Prince Pictures.
