Director Kunal Deshmukh's latest film "Jannat 2" was released on Friday. However, the crime thriller received mixed reviews.

Speaking about the main protagonists in the film, DNA's Kanika Sikka wrote Emraan Hashmi who is also the narrator of the movie does justice to his role, Esha Gupta adds glamour while Randeep Hooda's portrayal of a grief-driven cop is noteworthy.

Stating that Randeep's stellar performance was the most positive point in the film, Kanika also proclaimed that "Jannat 2" is worth a one-time watch, since there aren't many options for the movie-goers this weekend. The DNA gave it two stars out of five.

"Watch 'Jannat 2' for its catchy numbers (better still, buy a CD!). And since there aren't many options this weekend, you can count that as a reason to go watch the movie!" giving 2 out of 5 points," Zee News declared.

Claiming the film's plot as "oddly uninteresting" and "predictable," Rediff's Raja Sen wrote, "Hashmi's Sonu Dilli is an insipid fellow who keeps crowing about how the world calls him a dog, Esha Gupta plays a doctor who apparently runs a free 'hospital' without knowing how to pay the bills, and Randeep Hooda -- god bless his soul -- keeps a straight face even while playing a whiskey-loving cop bitterly waging war on gunrunners because his wife was shot."

However, Bollywoodhungama.com gave the film four points and claimed that "On the whole, Jannat 2 is an engaging film with tremendous appeal for the masses. An absorbing story, a swift and coherent narrative, exemplary direction, fantastic action, soothing music and stellar performances summarize the highlights of this triumphant franchise."

Declaring the film "Good," The Times of India's Gaurav Malani said, "Despite the grave theme, the treatment is more or less perky and devoid of melodrama, which thankfully never makes the proceedings depressing."

Meanwhile, the producer of "Jannat 2," Mahesh Bhatt has claimed that the film opened "extraordinary" and the cost of the film was recovered on its opening day.

"The entire cost of production of our film is recovered on the first day. This is our usp: Low cost, good, mass films," tweeted Mahesh Bhatt.

Announcing the opening day's response, Mahesh also thanks the entire "Jannat 2" team for the success of the film, "# Jannat 2: Extraordinary opening! A big thank u to the entire team who made this possible." Check out the slideshow for "Jannat 2" still images, here.
