"American Idol XV," which will come to an end after this season, has entered an interesting stage of the competition with the number of contestants to be trimmed to just 14 from 24 after the semi-finals rounds.
The top 24 semi-finalists have been split into two groups of 12 contestants each. Judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr will choose only seven contestants from each group, which means 10 of them will be sent home in the semi-finals.
The "American Idol XV" semi-finals 1 performance was telecast on FOX on Wednesday and the results were announced on Thursday.

Only seven out of the 12 contestants made it to the top 14. La'Porsha Renae, Sonika Vaid, Avalon Young, Gianna Isabella, Thomas Stringfellow, Mackenzie Bourg and Jeneve Rose Mitchell progressed to the next round, while five other contestants -- Stephany Negrete, Jenna Renae, James VIII, Emily Brooke and Jordan Sasser – were sent home during the semi-finals 1 results episode.
Next week, the remaining 12 contestants will take the stage. The judges will put through seven of them to the next round and send five of them home.
