Fans of "The Affair" have long been waiting to find out who killed Scotty Lockhart. In Season 2 of the drama series, the murder trial almost took a back seat owing to the numerous relationship problems between Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Noah (Dominic West). And when the haze surrounding Scotty's death cleared, it was perhaps a shock to see Noah take the blame.

With Noah facing time in prison, many wonder what's next for the New York-based writer. Also, what trajectory will Alison's storyline adopt? Will Noah and Helen (Maura Tierney) rekindle their romance?

According to several reports, Season 3 of "The Affair" will focus on Noah and Helen's relationship. The show will most likely incorporate Helen's guilt into the plot and this will perhaps play a significant part in her relationship with Noah.

In a recent interview, actor Joshua Jackson, who plays the role of Cole Lockhart, said Season 3 of "The Affair" will depict the resolution of events after Scotty's death. According to the actor, the next instalment in Showtime's drama series will probably depict some lighter moments, and this could be good news to fans who have had an overdose of all the lies and the cheating in Season 2.

Furthermore, executive producer Sarah Treem said each season of "The Affair" has adopted a different tone and Season 3 will be no different.

Elle Magazine quoted her as saying: "I think the second season is going to be darker in tone, and tighter. And the third season changes again. I will be sad if we don't get a third because I don't think it quite pays off until the third season."

In early December 2015, Showtime announced "The Affair" had been renewed for a third season, along with "Homeland". So far, the start date hasn't been confirmed.
