Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti was arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with security guards at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

An FIR was lodged against Bharti and his supporters two weeks ago after the incident occurred on 9 September. Bharti and his men allegedly injured six security guards at the medical institute.

Bharti had earlier remarked that if the allegations hold any truth, then the "Modi police" can come and arrest him.

"The whole event is video recorded. The SHO of that area was present at that moment. What does the Modi police want to project by taking such an action after two days? Misusing the police like this, Modi ji and Amit Shah ji, you have lost the mandate. Is it not the result of the defeat that you have faced in Gujarat," Bharti had said.

The AAP MLA was also booked in July for allegedly instigating his supporters to misbehave with a woman.

Rejecting all the allegations, Bharti earlier said through a tweet: "AIIMS is lying. They have been denying legitimate access to Gautam Nagar residents. AIIMS even refused to PWD meetings."

Another AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was detained by the Delhi police on Wednesday over charges of sexual harassment. Khan was also arrested by the police for threatening a woman, but was later released on bail.
