A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Bering Sea between American and Russian islands on Friday, June 2.

Earthquake hits Haryana, tremors felt in Delhi, northern India

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake, which occurred at 2:24 pm, originated in the northwest of Attu Island near the far west end of the Aleutians archipelago. It struck at a depth of about 2.7 miles.

Residents of both the islands close to the epicentre — Attu Island and Bering Island — felt the tremors but no loss of life and property was reported. The USGS also added that the quake was not expected to cause Tsunami.

The sparsely populated region of Alaska, which falls in the 'Pacific Ring of Fire', sometimes experiences shallow as well as powerful earthquakes.
