Japanese automaker Suzuki has been working on the next generation of Jimny for quite some time. While leaked images have been circulating on the internet, a new batch of leaked images gives a clear idea of how the next-gen compact SUV will look like.

The catalogue images leaked by an Italian car magazine shows the new Jimney filmed reportedly in Italy. The report also suggests that the new Jimny will be unveiled soon and will go on sale in the manufacturer's home country in Japan in early 2018.

At a time when established boxy SUV designs make way for more rounded edges, the 4th generation likes to go against the pattern. Jimny has a proper boxy design and will be offered in dual tone customisation and a variety of options.

The five-slat front grille and round headlamps are still intact while the wheel arches have received plastic claddings. At the rear, the new Jimny is expected to get bumper-integrated tail lamps and rear-mounted spare wheels. It is also expected to be available in dual-tone exterior colour options. Overall, the new design looks like a blend of German maker Mercedes-Benz's G-Wagon and British marque Land Rover's Defender.

The interior images show a simple yet modern cabin. The new Jimny's cabin will boast of multi-function steering wheel, touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a twin-dial instrument cluster and more.

Additional leaked information claims that the new Jimny will have an all-wheel-drive layout as standard. The sub-four metre SUV will be offered in two petrol engines – a 1.2-litre K-Series naturally aspirated unit and a 1 litre-3 cylinder BoosterJet turbocharged unit. The mill will be offered with options of the five-speed manual gearbox and an automatic transmission.

Suzuki is reportedly planning to manufacture the next-generation Jimny in India at its Gujarat facility. In that case, the new Jimny is expected to replace the ageing Gypsy in India.
