Vijay's "Thalaivaa" has become a huge hit in the UK markets, raking in ₹2.09 crore at the end of the second weekend.

"Tamil film #Thalaivaa is a Hit in UK. Total after Weekend 2: £ 213,251 [Rs 2.09 crores]. Excellent!" film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"Thalaivaa" was released on 9 August worldwide except in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The film opened to a good response at the domestic as well as overseas box office.

"Thalaivaa" has performed better than Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" and some Malayalam films at the Kerala box office. Despite its average ratings, "Thalaivaa" scored big at the Karnataka box office as well.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu version titled "Anna" was released in about 275 screens, thanks to no big Telugu releases. The film reportedly minted around ₹2.5 crore in the opening day of its release.

International Markets

"Thalaivaa" was released in key international markets including US and UK. Though the film is facing stiff competition from "Chennai Express", the Vijay-starrer has managed to secure decent collections.

Particularly in the UK markets, "Thalaivaa" made an impressive start earning ₹1.14 crore (£ 1,21,249) from 36 screens in the opening weekend. The film has made higher collections than Suriya's "Singam 2" in the UK. "Singam 2" earned around ₹99 lakh in the first week of its release. But Vijay's "Thalaivaa" crossed "Singam 2" collections in its debut weekend.

The film continued its dream run at the UK box office even in its second weekend. Its total UK collections are now pegged at ₹2.09 crore.

"Thalaivaa Release in Tamil Nadu

After much delay, "Thalaivaa" is all set to have a grand release in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (20 August). The action-drama will be shown in about 405 screens in the state. Despite releasing on a weekday, "Thalaivaa" is expected to make a good opening as Vijay films are more popular among the Tamil audience.
