While most of the top smartphone brands such as Moto, Sony, LG and others have listed all the devices eligible for Android 7.0 Nougat-based updates, Xiaomi has so far rolled out the firmware only to flagship Mi 5 in China. Other Mi and Redmi series device are left wondering whether they would get the new update or not? Now, the company software developer team member has finally broken silence and has announced the Nougat-based MIUI 9 is under works and would release in to older generation devices soon.

Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager, who goes by the moniker RanGer winds up, on Weibo (courtesy, The Android Soul) has confirmed that the company is beta testing Nougat-based MIUI on Mi 4s, 4c and also the Mi Note (1st Gen) and the public version will be deployed soon.

There is no word on the Redmi series, but if history is taken as any indication, Xiaomi is certain to release the new update to Redmi 2 and later models including the Redmi Note 2 and the Note 3 series. However, the roll-out is most likely to happen around March-end next year, if not in the second quarter of 2017.

The new Nougat software brings night mode, bundled notification, enhanced security update, improved battery optimisation, multi-window options and numerous other value-added features to enhance user experience.

In addition to Nougat features, Xiaomi is expected to include new custom features such as themes, wallpapers and shortcuts to improve user-experience.

Other Xiaomi devices which are most likely to get the new MIUI 9 are Mi 5s, Mi Note 2, Mi Max and Mi Mix.
