Indian arm of Xiaomi on Monday claimed that the company sold a record number of smartphone units in the third quarter ending in September 2016.

Xiaomi, despite facing #BanChineseGoods negative campaign on social media platforms, reportedly sold more than 2 million in India, witnessing 150 percent Year-over-Year growth.

Xiaomi India's feat is palpable considering the range of devices that made debut in India. Xiaomi's budget offering Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3S series were huge hit among the consumers in India, as they offered premium features for affordable prices.

We reviewed Xiaomi's Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3S Prime and found to be most cost-effective in the respective mid-range and budget categories. There was hardly any competition to match the both the devices in terms of cost and specification ratio.

Even the 6.4-inch Mi Max was a remarkable phablet which offered extremely long battery life, as we found out in our review tests.

With record sale, Xiaomi, for the first time since its debut in India in 2014, has broken into the top five leader board and if it continues the same momentum, it will displace the home-bred Micromax, as the third biggest smartphone maker in India, in the fourth quarter.

Having gained so much market in such a short span of time, Xiaomi now have to seriously make efforts to release newer products soon after China launch, or else it will lose the momentum.

"The competition from other Chinese and Indian brands continue to increase pressure on the company. To sustain the momentum the company will have to continue its commitment towards India with launch of new and refresh devices time to time. Xiaomi has a big fan base in India and the company needs to concentrate on the feedbacks provided by them. Continuous innovation is the only way forward in this highly competitive Indian smartphone market,"Shobhit Srivastava, Research Associate, Mobile Devices and Ecosystems at Counterpoint Research, said to International Business Times India.
