If a news report from China is to be believed, the long rumoured Xiaomi Mi5 will finally see the light of the day next month.

G for Games, citing popular tech spy Leaksfly, has claimed that Xiaomi will host an event on 3 December to unveil the much awaited Mi5 and release the device next January.

Though Xiaomi is yet to respond to the report, Leaksfly's prediction is in line with previous reports.

It is widely reported that Mi5 will house the Snapdragon 820 series processor, which is expected to be officially unveiled by American semi-conductor technology major Qualcomm later this month.

After the launch, Snapdragon 820 chipset will be delivered to smartphone makers such as Samsung, HTC and Xiaomi to incorporate it in their respective flagship smartphones - Galaxy S7 series, HTC One M10, Mi 5 and other Tier-1 brands, slated for release in 2016.

If this turns true, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be the first smartphone in the market to feature the advanced Snapdragon 820 series CPU. It also augurs well for the company's brand image and will enable it to shed the tag of "industry's copy-cat" tag. The company has often been accused of stealing Apple's design features. Now, it looks like the Xiaomi Mi5 will help the company get a image makeover.

Expected features of Xiaomi Mi 5:

Beside featuring Snapdragon 820 processor, the Xiaomi Mi5 is said to sport a 5.2-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440p) display with Gorilla Glass 4 shield.

Under the hood, it is expected to come packed with 4GB RAM, 16mp main camera, 13mp snapper on the front and a 3,000mAh battery.

Another noteworty feature of the Mi5 is that the phone is expected to house Qualcomm's Sense ID based bio-metric technology. It is a 3D finger-print system, which is said to be more advanced than the one present in the current crop of tier-1 brands like Apple and Samsung phones.
