Microsoft is revolutionizing Windows operating system by unifying all platforms such as PC, mobile, gaming and more. The Windows 10 OS is going to be the most advanced operating system by Microsoft to date and aims at delivering the best experience. Shortly after referring to the new OS as the last version of Windows, Microsoft announced seven new editions of Windows 10 that will power a wide array of devices.

In an official Windows blog on Wednesday, Microsoft revealed the names of different OS editions that will meet varied demands of consumers. Windows 10 will bring devices such as PCs, smartphones, tablets for both personal and enterprise under one banner. Additionally, Microsoft will offer Windows 10 for education and Internet of Things. To get a better understanding of how different devices will run the new OS, we have a brief description of all seven Windows 10 editions below:

Windows 10 Home

Windows 10 Home will be the mainstream OS for personal computers, tablets and convertibles. The OS is said to bring a host of new features such as Cortana, all-new Microsoft Edge browser, Continuum mode for touch-enabled devices, Windows Hello face, iris and fingerprint recognition software, and several Windows apps that will work across all devices.

Windows 10 Mobile

Bringing smartphones at par with PCs and tablets with a similar OS was well-thought step on Microsoft's behalf. At first, there was some criticism over how the company will carry out the integration but several leaks have suggested promising results. Windows 10 for mobile is expected to bring advanced security, productivity and management tools to small screen devices as well as Continuum for phone to bring PC experience on mobile devices.

Windows 10 Pro

Microsoft is making distinct categories for people to choose from, based on their needs. Besides personal computing, Windows 10 is also designed for small business. Windows 10 Pro, as it is called, offers features like efficient management of multiple synced devices and apps, data protection, remote and mobile support for cloud tech and more.

Windows 10 Pro, like Home and Mobile, will qualify for free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Phone devices during the first year.

Windows 10 Enterprise

Businesses are a major part of Microsoft's Windows success. Windows 10 will continue to offer advanced features suited for medium and large sized businesses with better security, OS deployment and app management.

Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise

Microsoft is diving deep into the enterprise sector, as Windows 10 will also come as a mobile enterprise edition to support smartphones and tablets used by its business customers. The OS for mobile will include all features in the Windows 10 Enterprise such as security, productivity and device management alongside the ability to manage updates easily.

Windows 10 Education

Microsoft has keen interest in the education sector and Windows 10 will have a separate edition meant for schools. Teachers, students and administrative staff will be allowed to take advantage of Windows 10 Education through academic Volume Licensing.

Windows 10 IoT Core

While it was expected that Microsoft will bring most devices on board with its Windows 10, IoT struck us by surprise. With a dedicated Windows 10 IoT Core edition, Microsoft will power internet-connected things such as elevators, ATMs, Point of sale, terminals, industry robotics and more.

There isn't a precise release date for Windows 10, but the software maker is eyeing a summer release. Windows 10 will be available across 190 countries in 111 languages at launch.
