"Game of Thrones" season 5 returns on Sunday with a brand new episode, and fans of the fantasy series can catch it on HBO at 9 pm EDT.

Internet users can also catch the first episode of the season, "The Wars to Come" using HBO Go and HBO Now, the network's standalone streaming service, at the same time it appears on HBO.

But before the first episode airs, here are some clues to what happens after Tyrion made his escape after killing his father, Tywin.

According to the official synopsis, Jaime and Cersei will face new challenges as they adjust to a world without Tywin; Lor Varys will reveal his true intentions to Tyrion; Jon Snow struggles between two kings.

As revealed in the promos, Varys will persuade the dwarf to pledge his allegiance to someone more fitting to be on the Iron Throne than the Lannisters and Baratheons. While Varys wants Daenerys Targaryen to claim the throne, the Mother of Dragons will have her hands full with issues in Meereen.

Two of her dragons are locked up, and Daenerys will have trouble with an unknown assassin who has killed one of her Unsullied soldiers.

Meanwhile, in the North, leader of the Wildlings, Mance Rayder, will be burned after refusing to kneel to Stannis Baratheon, and fans will get to see more of Melisandre, the creepy red priestess.

Season 5 could be the beginning of the end of "Game of Thrones" television series, and showrunner David Benioff recently revealed to The Huffington Post that the battles are going to get bigger now.

"There is an overarching story, and we are past the midpoint now," Benioff said. "It's getting closer to the end, ultimately. We are starting to build to a crescendo, which means the battles have to get bigger and things have to get more dramatic. Something like the Red Wedding... you'd been with these characters for nearly three seasons, so of course something like that is going to have a big effect on people. But when you think about characters like Arya or Tyrion, who you've spent so much time with, whenever they're in jeopardy, it should feel like a big deal."

"Game of Thrones" season 5 airs Sundays on HBO.
