Xiaomi has just confirmed that it will start rolling out the Android Marshmallow update to two of its devices soon. Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will be the first smartphones in the company's lineup to get the latest software. The news comes from Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager in a Weibo post on Friday, further adding that the MIUI will stick to version 7.

There is no exact release date for Android Marshmallow for the two devices, but considering it is the first official update on the matter, it brings relief to users who have been longing to get the taste of the new software. According to GizmoChina via BGR, a closed beta for Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 7 will be rolled out to Mi 4 and Mi Note as early as next week.

Since Xiaomi is skipping the MIUI upgrade in Android M, it is possible that the rollout will happen sooner than later.

Besides Mi 4 and Mi Note, there has been no indication on which other phones will get Android M but Gizbot reports that Mi 3 will join the list as it shares the same source code as Mi4.

The news of Android M rollout comes on the heels of rumours about the Mi 5 smartphone, which is set to debut next year. Reports indicate Mi 5 is going to have some of the industry's best features and specs, which reiterates Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun's claim that the next flagship is going to be "worth the wait" and "very, very good."

In other news, Xiaomi also released the Windows 10 Mobile OS for its Mi 4 LTE device, making it the first non-Microsoft smartphone to run the latest Windows OS. The new mobile OS is available for download and you can instal it right away.
