WhatsApp Voice Calling Coming to iOS In Few Weeks, Says Co-Founder; How To Activate?
WhatsApp Co-Founder Breaks Silence On Voice-Calling For iOS Devices; Estimates A Few WeeksScreenshot WhatsApp

WhatsApp voice-calling has widely appeared on Android smartphones, even if it is through invite-only system, but iPhone users are kept waiting along the way. It seems the wait won't last much longer as the company's co-founder has finally opened up on the roll-out of its most anticipated voice-calling feature to iOS platform.

There is no definite timeline on the official release, but Brian Acton of WhatsApp said during Facebook F8 developer conference on Wednesday that the feature will arrive on iOS platform in a "couple of weeks."

Acton revealed new information while sharing the stage with Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and head of Facebook Messenger David Marcus during Wednesday's conference. He also insisted that beta testing on Android platform only began after vigorously testing voice-calling for the last year, Venture Beat reported. We have seen several WhatsApp users on Android already using the feature while iPhone users require jail-break to activate voice-calling.

The most recent update to WhatsApp iOS app added a non-functioning call button. But if you have a jail-broken iPhone, you can follow four simple steps to get voice-calling activated. First, users need to have the latest version of WhatsApp app on their iPhone. Then users must add iMokholes repository to the list of Cydia sources. Install WhatsAppCallEnabler from Cydia Settings. Finally, find someone who has the feature activated and ask them to call you.

If you are skeptical about jail-breaking your iPhone, it may be worth waiting for the official roll-out, which is now pegged at a few weeks' time.

In case of Android, WhatsApp voice-calling can be activated much easily. The invite window is currently open and users need to have the latest version of WhatsApp before getting an invitation call from someone who already has the feature.
