Wenger Dismisses Henry's Suggestion that Arsenal Need 4 Top-Class Players to Win Premier League Title

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that Thierry Henry is wrong to say that the Gunners cannot win the Premier League title with their current squad.

The former Arsenal striker, who is now working as a pundit for Sky Sports, had earlier suggested that the Gunners needed to follow the footsteps of Chelsea and sign four-top class players this summer if they wanted to have a chance of winning the Premier League title next season.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had also said that the Gunners would be able to again emulate their invincible season if they managed to sign four top players this season.

But Wenger does not agree with Henry and Mourinho, insisting that his side are not in need of a drastic change.

"We are not in need of absolute change," Wenger told ESPN. "We have a strong squad. We have some strong young players behind."

"We have a big squad now. Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell, Yaya Sanogo will come back from their loans. If you add that to the number of players we have, you can see we have a big squad now."

"We feel we have made up some ground, that will be the challenge of next season from the start, let's show we are there and capable to fight for it."

Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil's consistency was questioned by Henry after he hit a barren spell in the first part of the season.

But Wenger feels that the German has answered his critics by making "big improvements" of late.

"I believe that some players who were questioned, like Mesut Ozil, have made big improvements in the second part of the season and becomes slowly the leader you want him to be in guiding our game."

Henry had also stated that the Gunners would need a new striker to make a strong bid for the Premier League title next season, suggesting that Olivier Giroud may not have what it takes to lead Arsenal to glory.

However, Wenger has hit out at Henry, saying that the former France striker was wrong to question the abilities of Giroud.

"I can accept that is an opinion, but the comment on Giroud was wrong," Wenger added. "I heard the same thing being said about [Nicolas] Anelka, about Thierry Henry himself and about Robin van Persie, and they all became world class players themselves.

"What I know is Giroud works very hard for the team and has a fantastic mentality and if the team does well it is down to him and, if on top of that he scores 20 or more goals, he has done his job."

The 65-year-old Frenchman feels that Henry made these comments due to him being under pressure to talk about attention grabbing topics at Sky Sports.

"We know all the system now of the modern media, especially on TV," he added. "They push you to be controversial because they give you a lot of money."
