"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will be back on NBC with the sixth episode of season 17 this Wednesday, 21 October, at 9pm. The sequel, titled "Maternal Instincts", will focus on Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) and her family members.

The official synopsis of the episode read: "Detective's (Kelli Giddish) mother Beth (Madsen) throws her a baby shower while the SVU reports to a four-star hotel where a famous violinist was raped by her colleague, Anton Krasnikov (guest star Zach McGowan)

"With no memory of the crime, Anton claims a hired escort drugged and robbed him, and evidence leads to the shocking return of Rollins' fugitive sister Kim (guest star Lindsay Pulsipher)."

In a sneak peek video, the detective is seen exposed to a shocking revelation about her siblings when she finds out that her sister is a fugitive. Although Giddish's character hides the truth from her colleagues, she warns Kim that they will find it. The clip also shows Sergeant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) interrogating Rollins and urging her to reveal the name of the person.

Another trailer of the episode shows the detective's mother Beth creating trouble for her by flirting with Detective Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and telling Hargitay's character that Rollins wished to be a Sergeant.

The sequel will also feature Andy Karl as the son of deputy chief William Dodds' son Mike Dodds, who joins the team as the new Sergeant, according to TV Line.
