Volvo, the auxiliary unit of Swedish auto manufacturer Volvo Cars, launched the petrol variant of its V40 Cross Country in India with a price tag of ₹27 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) on Monday, 20 April.

Under the skin, Volvo V40 Cross Country petrol gets 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which can generate 185PS of power and 240Nm peak torque and come mated to six-speed automatic transmission. In India, the new V40 Cross Country will be competing against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW 1 series.

Volvo, which is currently selling the diesel variant of V40 Cross Country will be bringing the petrol model of the same to the domestic market on 20 April. The model is likely to be powered by 1.6-litre DOHC turbocharged engine, which can churn out 185PS with six-speed automatic transmission.

Apart from the changes in the engine specifications, other features in the petrol variant of Volvo V40 is likely to be the same as that of the diesel model. The diesel V40 Cross Country variant hosts a number of unique style features like contrasting front and rear bumpers, honeycomb mesh grille, upright day-running lights and an integrated skid plate. In terms of safety features, the V40 comes with front curtain and knee airbags, ABS+EBD, traction control, ESP and City Safety Braking.

Volvo, which currently sells Volvo V40, Volvo S60, Volvo S80, Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90 is also rumoured to bring its V40 hatchback this year. As for the engines, V40 hatchback will get power from the 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which can churn out 152PS of power and 360Nm of torque.

The hatchback is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of 16.8kmpl. Once the new Volvo V40 hits Indian market, the car will take on the likes of BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz B-Class and is expected to get a price tag in the range of ₹22-₹25 lakh.
