Finally, the wait is over. The highly anticipated performance hatchback from German carmaker Volkswagen is here. Volkswagen launched the hot hatch—Polo GTI—in India on Thursday, November 3, with a price tag of Rs 25.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane).
Polo GTI with 189bhp of power is available for bookings in the country at select Volkswagen dealerships. Currently available in the three-door version, the Polo GTI comes powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 189bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. The engine can propel the powerful hatchback to reach 0-100 kmph in 7.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 233 kmph.
To face off against Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and the new Mini Cooper S in India, Polo GTI gets full LED headlamps with DRL and red inserts, front bumper with signature GTI honeycomb grille, dual chrome exhaust pipes, reflectors on rear bumper and body cladding on seal panel, tail light clusters in dark red and a black grained diffuser. It rides on 16-inch grey metallic alloys.
On the safety front, the hot hatch of Volkswagen houses ABS, six airbags and electronic stability control with driver steering recommendation. Other features in the Polo GTI include Hill Start Assist, cruise control, 60:40 foldable rear seats, tilt and adjustable steering wheel, cooled glove box, infotainment system with Aux, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and six speakers.
Volkswagen will bring the power hatch to India as Completely Built Unit (CBU) from Spain and the three-door is expected to be joined by the five-door version later after gauging the response in the Indian market.
