Russian President Vladimir Putin does not approve the way drag queen Conchita Wurst leads her life as he believes she is putting her life up on show.

While saying that Wurst has the freedom to live life as she pleases, Putin said at a dinner in St Petersberg that it is important to reaffirm traditional values.

"The Bible talks about the two genders, man and woman, and the main purpose of union between them is to produce children," Putin said, according to The Telegraph.

"For us it is important to reaffirm traditional values.... I personally am very liberal (on matters of personal morality)."

Putin's comments follow the Russian defense ministry's announcement that it is launching a music competition for children and youth that is billed as "an alternative to bearded Eurovision."

Wurst, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, won the annual Eurovision Song Contest earlier this month by singing "Rise Like a Phoenix." Many saw her win in the music competition as "proof of Europe's moral degrading."

Church authorities, too, have blamed the artist for all the disasters happening round the world.

In a bizarre turn of events, Wurst has been held responsible for the floods in the Balkans that have forced almost 150,000 to leave their homes as several villages and towns in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia have been destroyed.

Church authorities feel that the floods is God's "divine punishment" for the drag queen's victory.

"This is not a coincidence, but a warning. God sent the rains as a reminder that people should not join the wild side," Patriarch Amfilohije of Montenegro, a Serbian Orthodox cleric, told Serbian news website e-novine.

Another spiritual leader, Patriarch Irinej, too, reportedly said the floods were "divine punishment for their vices" and that "God is thus washing Serbia of its sins."

But the drag queen is unperturbed with all the criticism coming her way. Speaking about her look on the Graham Norton Show, the drag queen said that she is comfortable sporting a beard and it expresses everything that she feels.

Interestingly, this is not the first time authorities have shown a tendency to think irrationally when it comes to explaining the cause of natural disasters.

Early this year, a UKIP councillor said that the Government's decision to legalize gay marriages were what caused incessant rains and floods in Britain early this year.

David Silvester had reportedly warned British Prime Minister David Cameron that supporting gay marriages would result in disaster. But the Prime Minister went ahead with the plan to legalise same sex marriages.

"The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters such as storms, disease, pestilence and war," Silvester wrote in a letter to Henley Standard, The Mirror reported.
