Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez (C) celebrates after scoring his second goal past Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone during their English Premier League match at the Stadium of LightReuters

Arsenal climbed to fifth position in the Premier League, following a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Alexis Sanchez capitalised on two individual errors to score both goals against Sunderland, who were not able to even net a consolation.

The game started with Arsenal getting a very good chance to break the deadlock in the 15th minute but Danny Welbeck, after doing well to advance forward and cut in from the left, was not able to hit the target.

Despite being humiliated by Southampton in their last Premier League fixture, the Black Cats did not seem anxious or nervous as they started settling into a good rhythm.

However, an individual error from Wes Brown saw them concede a goal at the half hour mark. The former Manchester United defender's poor back pass was intercepted by an alert Alexis Sanchez, who found the net with an excellent chip over Vito Mannone.

The Gunners threatened to score more goals in the closing stages of the first half, with Santi Cazorla just missing the target and Calum Chambers forcing Mannone into a save but score remained 1-0 at the break.

Things did not go well for Sunderland in the second half as striker Steven Fletcher was forced off the pitch with an injury.

Arsenal, on the other hand, continued attacking with Sanchez forcing a save from Mannone with a long range effort at the hour mark.

Five minutes later, Sunderland got an excellent chance to level the scores but Szczesny preserved the Gunners' lead as he kept out a venomous 20-yard effort from Sebastian Larsson.

The Gunners also got a good chance to double their advantage in the 78th minute but Welbeck was unable to get his header on target after being picked out by Nacho Monreal.

However, the miss did not matter as another individual blunder allowed Sanchez to grab his second and seal all three points for Arsenal. Patrick Van Aanholt played the ball back to his keeper and Mannone made a complete mess as his fumble allowed Sanchez to smash the ball into the back of the net.
