Liverpool scraped to a win over Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League on Sunday, and the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers admitted his side were a little lucky to come away with a 3-2 result.

Queens Park Rangers came back from a goal down twice to seemingly fight their way to at least a point at Loftus Road, only for a late own goal from Steven Caulker to turn Liverpool disappointment into delight.

The first goal also came via an own goal, with Richard Dunne putting the ball into his own net off a Glen Johnson cross. QPR, who were a lot better on Sunday than they have been all season in the Premier League, refused to lie down, and equalised via their summer signing Eduardo Vargas.

However, the goals were far from done as Philippe Coutinho produced a nice finish to make it 2-1 in Liverpool's favour, before that man Vargas again came to the fore to restore parity.

Then came the late, late drama as Raheem Sterling went in behind the QPR defence before playing in a cross which Caulker could only direct into his own net.

Rodgers was a relieved man, and admitted his team were "fortunate" to take three points back to Anfield.

"I thought we were fortunate, I've got to be honest," said Rodgers. "I like to win and I like to win in the way that we work on a daily basis -- and that was nowhere near what I would expect from a team of mine.

"But I have to applaud the players and their character and attitude in the game because even though we weren't anywhere near the passing and rhythm of our game -- and we had missed chances to close the game out - we still kept going.

"The players showed remarkable courage to do that. We have gained three points that we're happy to receive, having been nowhere near how this team has the capacity to play.

"We scored 101 goals last year, but the dynamic of the team has changed. That just takes time, unfortunately there's no magic wand to make it work instantly. We've got a lot of games, with less coaching time and a lot of new players.

"I commend the players again because they're coming in and working very hard to improve our performance level - and, like we've shown over my time here, that will improve. Until that happens, you have to win games and the three points were very important for us."
