Ajith's latest movie "Vedalam" ("Vedhalam") has been welcomed by the Tamil audience. As a result, the movie has registered an earth-shattering collection at the box office in two days.

On the second day, audience turnout in theatres for "Vedalam" remained good and the rains did not deter the fans' spirit as they turned up in theatres in big numbers. Trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai confirmed the same and announced, "#Deepavali2015, Day 2 at TN B-O , both #Thoongavanam & #Vedalam are holding well. So far good Deepavali inspite of heavy rains."

"Vedalam" has set a new benchmark at the box office on the release day by grossing Rs 15.5 crore and breaking all the previous records of the first day. It beat the records of Rajinikanth's "Lingaa", which had done a business of Rs 12.8 crore, and Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Kaththi", which had minted Rs 12.5 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office.

The Ajith starrer has done the same magic on the second day too as it made close to Rs 10 crore. But the exact business made by the movie is yet to be revealed. Nonetheless, the movie has reached the Rs.25 crore-mark in two days.

Even though critics had given mixed reviews for "Vedalam", the audience seem to have liked the movie and this is making the producer increase the screen count. In the overseas centres like Sri Lanka and the UK, there will be an increase in the shows, starting from Thursday, 12 November.

Meanwhile, "Vedalam" is doing well in the US. Trade tracker Ramesh tweeted, "#Thoongaavanam does well on Tuesday in #USA $87,986 Total 2 days $164, 027 and moves ahead of #Vedalam Tue $42,621 ($135,104 2 days)."

"Vedalam" is likely to continue its good performance for the next few days due to the holiday weekend. The distributors are likely to recover their investment by the end of this weekend.
