When "The Vampire Diaries" returns for its sixth season on 2 October, a lot would have changed in the lives of key characters Elena and Stefan after losing their loved ones during the obliteration of the Other Side.

And these two will choose unexpected and unusual ways to deal with their grief. While Elena, played by Nina Dobrev, will turn into a blood addict to cope up with the loss of her boyfriend Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan's (Paul Wesley) cope-up mechanism has him shacking up with someone to forget his grief. And this is going to piss off Caroline, played by Candice Accola, and a number of fans, as many had been eagerly waiting to see the Caroline-Stefan romance materialising in season six.

But Caroline won't be left without a significant other, and based on the synopsis of the second episode titled "Yellow Ledbetter," she will have Enzo (Michael Malarkey) for company. In the second episode, Enzo will convince Caroine to join him to track down a way to get back Damon and Bonnie (Kat Graham), who are not alone wherever they are trapped.

When asked by CelebTV about Caroline being a potential love interest, Malarkey said he will have a make-out scene, which is going to be epic. "I can't tell you with who, but that's going to make everybody go nuts," the actor stated.

Based on the official synopsis of the upcoming three episodes, it can be deduced that Elena will final mend her way and move on with her life with Alaric's help. And in the third episode, she invites Caroline to meet her at the swimming hole where she plans to introduce her best friend to Liam. But Stefan, who comes to Mystic Falls looking for Enzo, notices a strange change in Elena, which will catch him off-guard.

Elsewhere, Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) will be seen bonding with new girl Sarah (guest star Gabrielle Walsh), and he will make a startling discovery about the anti-magic spell that could endanger Elena.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that Tripp, leader of the community protection programme, could be Matt's father, and spoilers indicate that he would reveal his connection to Mystic Falls in the second episode.

TV Guide's Adam Bryant wrote: "As our boy Matt becomes more involved in Mystic Falls, he'll realize that Colin Ferguson's Tripp has an important family connection to the town. Just wait until you hear Tripp's real name. Then it'll make more sense that he's keeping quiet about some extracurricular activities that could put Matt's closest friends in extreme peril."
