Kamal Haasan starrer "Uttama Villain" aka "Uthama Villain" has opened to a good start at the overseas box office in the first weekend. While the movie did not release in time in India, it had a trouble-free release in foreign countries.

The Tamil movie has made stupendous business in centres like the US, Australia, and Malaysia in the opening weekend. The movie was released on 30 April in abroad, but in India it released on 2 May due to some financial issues.

The Tamil film has collected ₹95.12 lakh (MYR 537,141) at the Malaysian box office in the first weekend. It was released in 26 screens and the response has been fantastic on the release day. Raghava Lawrence's "Kanchana 2" gave some competition to the Kamal Haasan starrer.

"Kanchana 2" has collected ₹2.60 crore so far at the Malaysian box office and is still being shown on 11 screens.

In the US, the Tamil movie has raked in ₹2.96 crore ($465,382). "Uttama Villain" was released on 98 screens and it has been received well by the Tamil audience in the opening weekend. Its Telugu version earned ₹26.28 lakh ($41,289).

Mani Ratnam's "Ok Kanmani" is still enjoying its run in 10 screens and so far it has earned ₹5.40 crore ($41,289) from this part of the world. "Kanchana 2" has earned ₹13.59 lakh ($21,349) at the US box office.

However, at the Australian box office, "Uttama Villain" has raked in ₹69.30 lakh (A$140,208) from 17 screens in the opening weekend. Mani Ratnam's "Ok Kanmani", which is still running in four screens, has made ₹89.76 lakh.

At the Canada box office, "Uttama Villain" has earned ₹30.58 lakh ($48,037) in the opening weekend. The reports from the United Kingdom are awaited. Meanwhile, trade reports say that "Uttama Villain" has got a decent start at the box office. The figures are yet to be revealed.

"Uttama Villain" was originally planned for a 1 May release. The tickets were sold at key centres for the opening day shows, but a financial issue between the producer and the distributor halted the release. The movie has incurres an estimated ₹10 crore loss due to this.

Kamal Haasan's brilliant acting, family-oriented story with the flawless technical aspects of the movie are the highlights of "Uttama Villain". Apart from Kamal, Pooja Kumar, Andrea, and Nasser can be seen in important roles.

The Ramesh Aravind directorial is produced by N Lingusamy. It has Ghibran's music, Shamdar's cinematography, and Vijay Shankar's editing.
