Now that all the board exams are over and most of the results of class 12 exams are out, it's that time of the year when colleges and admission cut-offs are the most discussed topics. While the Delhi University mostly makes news for admissions to various courses and its unimaginable cut-off marks, numerous students also opt for courses in various other countries.

In tune with this, the University of Southampton, UK, has announced its India GREAT Scholarships that offers jointly-funded scholarships to Indian students who want to take up courses at the university for the academic year 2017-18. Each of these is worth £8,500 and applicable for bachelors and masters degrees. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their application and merit.

Apart from that, the candidates also need to fulfil the following criteria.

  • Indian national and resident in India.
  • attended high school in the country
  • self-funded
  • received an offer from the University of Southampton for one of the eligible programmes
  • selected the University of Southampton as their firm choice

The University of Southampton has an array of courses on offer right from bachelors in Archaeology and Anthropology, English Language and Linguistics, and Film and English to bachelors in Music and Management, Acoustical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Oceanography with Physical Geography, BSc Politics and International Relations, among others.

Some of the masters programmes are in Archaeology, Biochemistry, Ship Science, Oceanography with French, and Physics and Astronomy.

The deadline for application to the university is May 31.

Meanwhile, students interested in courses in Delhi University can start registering for courses online from Monday, May 22. DU will also organise open days Monday onwards, where students can see all the details of the course and colleges.

"It will start from May 22 (Monday) and will continue till May 31 at the North Campus' conference centre. It will start at 10 am and end at 1 pm," Hindustan Times quoted DU registrar Tarun Das as saying.
