The first offspring from the BMW Motorrad-TVS Motor Company, the G 310 R naked street bike, has been unveiled.

Designed and engineered in Munich, Germany, and to be produced at the TVS factory in Tamil Nadu, the G 310 R is the production version of the Concept Stunt G 310 motorcycle showcased at the 2015 Salao Duas Roda motorcycle show in Sao Paulo in October.

The design of the motorcycle has been inspired by the brand's bigger sibling, the BMW S 1000 R, and features an athletic stance. The headlight unit is small compared to other BMW motorcycles, and in line with the overall compact design of the motorcycle. The two-wheeler features an uncluttered sharp design in the absence of graphics, and a minimalist rear section, which is typical of naked street bikes.

The instrument cluster of the G 310 R comes with digital display that offers a wide range of information. The G 310 R will be sold in three colour combinations — Cosmic Black and Polar White non-metallic, Strato Blue metallic and Pearl White metallic.

The motorcycle will be powered by the all-new 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with four valves and two overhead camshafts, together with electronic fuel injection. The striking feature of the engine is its backward-tilted cylinder in open-deck design with the cylinder head turned 180 degrees. The engine develops an output of 33.5bhp at 9,500rpm, and maximum torque of 28Nm at 7,500 rpm, mated to a six-speed gearbox.

BMW claims top speed of 145kph while fuel-efficiency figure stands at 36.05 kmpl (84.8 mpg), which makes a compelling case for the G 310 R in its segment.

Like all BMW motorcycles, the new G 310 R is fitted with ABS as standard. It combines a brake system with two-channel ABS. At the front wheel, a 300mm single-disc brake with radially bolted four-piston fixed caliper takes care of braking. At the rear, this function is performed by a two-piston floating caliper in conjunction with a 240mm brake disc.

The India unveil can be expected during the 2016 Auto Expo. Aggressive localisation will help keep the price of the motorcycle on a par with the competition. The motorcycle is expected to be sold as a TVS product in India.
