A leading hip-hop DJ has sparked a controversy by claiming that rapper Tupac Shakur's lie cost two lives. Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex went live on Instagram and revealed that Tupac, also known as 2Pac, shot himself during the failed assassination attempt in 1994.

According to the DJ, Tupac unintentionally ignited the East Coast-West Coast gang war that ultimately took his life and rival Biggie Smalls' life. In the live video, Flex opened about the time when Tupac was shot in the leg at Quad Studios on November 30, 1994.

Flex said that on the night of November 30, Tupac from the West Coast shot himself in the leg and said that rivals from the East Coast attacked him. That same night Biggie and Puff were in the same building and the shooting might have ignited the East Coast-West Coast rivalry.

"You Pac fans always talking that talk. Cheddar Bob. Came in there, popped himself in the leg. Popped himself first. That's what happened. He knew who approached him. He had a steel (a gun) on him, 'cause he knew he had an issue out there," Flex was quoted as saying by The Sun.

"When they (Tupac's rivals) got there, they were just gonna take his jewellery. They didn't even touch him. He panicked, pulled out the steel, shot himself," he added.

Later, DJ in a series of tweets said that if Tupac had said the truth, then Biggie would have been still alive.

"Pac knew who got him... but blamed it on Biggie! That was easier than the truth. Pac put a whole bunch of people around him from ny that he couldn't control!" he tweeted.

"There would have been no east/west beef if PAC wouldn't of lied about who hit him up! And Biggie would still be here!"

"PAC KNEW WHO SHOT HIM AND LIED... HE WAS SCARED! So HE SAID BIG SET HIM UP! THATS WHY BIGGIE NEVER TALKED ABOUT IT!"

Tupac was shot on the night of September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas. The famous rapper died six days later. Biggie, also known as Notorious B.I.G., was shot in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.
