Nagarjuna, Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer "Thozha" has got a flying start at the box office in Tamil Nadu. In the first weekend, the movie has collected Rs 8.15 crore in the state.

Announcing the news, journalist Sreedhar Pillai posted on Twitter, "#Thozha rocks TN b-o.Opening Weekend : Mar 25-27, Rs 8.15 Cr net (approx). Share 4.8cr. Congrats @PVPCinema #Karthi @iamnagarjuna #Vamsi. [sic]"

The movie was released in over 325 screens in Tamil Nadu. The response for the advance booking was below expectations and even the morning shows on the release day did not register good occupancy. However, the audience turnout started improving in later shows due to positive reviews.

On the first day, "Thozha" earned Rs 2.27 crore in Tamil Nadu. In the next two days, the collection registered a good jump as it racked in Rs 5.88 crore. The film has collected Rs 1.14 crore from Chennai alone in three days.

"Thozha" has clashed with other films, including the Santhanam-starrer "Vaaliba Raja" and "Zero," during the week. But the Nagarjuna, Karthi-starrer has obviously performed far better than the others.

Meanwhile, the Telugu version of "Thozha," which is titled "Oopiri," has earned Rs 11.5 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Nizam regions. The combined worldwide collection of the two versions stands at Rs 29 crore, reports Andhra Box Office.

Vamsi Paidipally's "Thozha" has Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, and Ali among the supporting cast. The movie tells the story of a quadriplegic millionaire and an emotionally-challenged person. While Nagarjuna plays the role of a physically-challenged man, Karthi plays his caretaker in the film, which is the remake of the French movie, "The Intouchables." The touching narration backed by wonderful performances of Nagarjuna and Karthi have certainly won the hearts of the audience.
