The theatrical rights of "theri" in Tamil Nadu and key international circuits have been sold to different parties. The Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha and Amy Jackson-starrer will hit the screens worldwide April 14 for the Tamil New Year.
"#Theri All areas in Tamil Nadu sold out," journalist Sreedhar Pillai confirmed the news on Twitter. The most-sought after Chengalpet rights have been acquired by SPI Cinemas.
The early prediction coming from social media says that the entire Tamil Nadu theatrical rights have fetched above Rs. 40 crore for the makers of the flick. Ilayathalapathy Vijay's previous movie "Puli" had earned Rs. 39 crore through its state distribution rights.
The estimated business made by "Theri" from worldwide theatrical rights is above Rs. 60 crore.
"Theri" will be released big in foreign countries, especially in the U.S. where the screen count has already crossed the 150-mark. It will be the biggest-ever release for a Vijay film in this part of the world.
The Tamil movie and its Telugu version will simultaneously release in above 1,200 screens worldwide.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay will be seen in multiple avatars in "Theri." He plays the role of a cop with Samantha playing his wife, who is a doctor by profession in the flick. Amy Jackson will be seen in the role of a teacher and Mahendran is the baddie in the Tamil film.
Atlee Kumar has written the story and screenplay and the movie is bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Dhanu.
